Jon Bafus is a Drummer, Percussionist, Band Leader, visual artist, dad, and general creator of things. Born and raised in the foothills of California’s Sierra Nevada mountains, he now resides in Sacramento as his home base. With interests in both structure and chaos (and the spectrum in between), Bafus has been involved with many musical projects over the years, leaning in one or both of those directions. His main focus lies within his band Gentleman Surfer, which he founded as a solo project in 2006, and it has since grown into a fully functioning unit. other current projects include solo work, percussion duo Invasive Species (with Kevin Corcoran), Sax/Drums duo with ROVA saxophonist Jon Raskin, Pac and Seep (duo with saxophonist Randy McKean), as well as various collaborations with Sacramento Guitarist Ross Hammond. Past Projects include Afternoon Brother, Sholi, Mucky the Ducky, Sol + Jon = Yes, Genetic Makeup, Raw Data, Good News Bears, and stints playing in Appetite and Raleigh Moncrief. Bafus has also taken part in Improvisational Collaborations with Carson McWhirter, Nick Reinhart, Phillip Greenlief, Vinny Golia, Steuart Liebig, John Shiurba, Eli Wallace, Joshua Marshall, Tony Passarel, Jed Brewer and many others. As a painter he has taken place in several group shows as well as solo and duo exhibitions in and around the Sacramento area between 2010 and 2019.
